What is Aqiqah?
Aqiqah (also spelled Haqiqah or Aqeeqah) is a beautiful Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ — the sacrifice of a goat, sheep, or cow performed to celebrate the birth of a child and express heartfelt gratitude to Allah ﷻ.
For a baby boy, two animals are recommended. For a baby girl, one animal is sufficient. The sacrifice is traditionally performed on the 7th day after birth — though the 14th, 21st, or any later date is also valid.
The meat is shared in three portions: one for the family, one for neighbours, and one for those in need — spreading joy and sustenance to the wider community.
